Tolls in Portugal: Everything you need to know

Select another country and learn all about its tolls and road charges

In Portugal, as in Spain and France, tolls are collected through various motorway companies. The Portuguese toll collection system (covering a total of 2,950km) is very complex and has some important specifications to keep in mind.

The ViaVerde toll system is closed, with entrances and exits, and combines electronic tolling with license plate detection and traditional toll booths with barriers. To ease mobility across the road network therefore it is advisable to acquire an electronic device.
