Whilst it is not obligatory, it is advisable to pre-register your gas powered vehicles in Germany in order to facilitate any delays or administrative issues related to vehicle controls or non-payment notifications.

This pre-registration notification is retained by the Federal Transport Office and is taken into account when the traffic authorities carry out any vehicle controls.

If you do not pre-register your vehicles, it is important to have all the vehicle documentation that accredits the vehicle exemption (Copies of the Vehicle Registration Documents (both Pages) which clearly show the gas classification.

Despite there not being any fixed speed limit on the German motorway network, the recommended speed is 130 km/h. Be aware that some sections of the network require a minimum safety distance between vehicles.

The minimum safety distance according to the German authroties is calculated by halfing the speed of your vehicle at any giving moment. For example, a vehicle travelling at 140km/h should maintain a safety distance of 70m behind the vehicle in front.

It should also be noted that areas surrounding urban developments have a speed restriction of 100km/h in order to reduce acoustic contamination.

The Toll Collecct OBU device is also active in the Austrian Asfinag road network.

First of all, we recommend checking the device to ensure:Ā

  • If it is correctly configured (license plate, axles, weight).Ā
  • If the network of the country that issued the fine is activatedĀ
  • If there is no error on the screen or any red light appears.Ā

Ā It is also advisable to check with the driver if the device had any errors that were not notified, or if the device was disconnected from the vehicle’s power supply.Ā

In addition to the above, you can verify the consumption of the device during that date to check if the journey has been recorded correctly and the fine has been issued in error.Ā

In Vrio we offer a professional fine management service specializing in the analysis and appeal of this type of toll fines. We take care of the whole process on your behalf keeping you on the road.Ā
