Bulgaria has approximately 3,115km of toll roads.

It applies to all vehicles except motorcycles and the amount of the toll is based on the vehicle category.

Bulgaria is included in the multi-country toll schemes such as Vrio Plus device for vehicles with a total weight of > 3.5 t. There is also the possibility to reserve a specific route in advance with a maximum of 4 stops, ideal for sporadic trips, or you can opt to use an on-board unit to pay the tolls in Bulgaria electronically if traffic is more frequent.

Vehicles ≤ 3.5 t must purchase a vignette.

The obligation to pay tolls for heavy vehicles has existed since March 1, 2020. Prior to this date a Vignette system was in operation in Bulgaria.

In the event of a police control, it is not necessary to present proof of the route, as it is monitored by fixed and mobile cameras, which digitally record the license plate of vehicles and their movements throughout the toll network.

It is not possible to cancel a route after your purchase has been completed. In case of error, it would be necessary to purchase a new one, the incorrect route would not be subject to reimbursement.

First of all, we recommend checking the device to ensure: 

  • If it is correctly configured (license plate, axles, weight). 
  • If the network of the country that issued the fine is activated 
  • If there is no error on the screen or any red light appears. 

It is also advisable to check with the driver if the device had any errors that were not notified, or if the device was disconnected from the vehicle’s power supply. 

In addition to the above, you can verify the consumption of the device during that date to check if the journey has been recorded correctly and the fine has been issued in error.
