In Austria, tolls are compulsory on all motorways and expressways. The toll can be paid in the form of vignette, unit on board, or for specific routes. The toll ensures the expansion and operation of the high-level road network in Austria.

In Austria, trucks and buses of +3.5t are subject to tolls, depending on the kilometers travelled. To do this, it has its own GO-Box device, which can be purchased at more than 175 GO points of sale distributed throughout the country and before entering.

For vehicles weighing less than 3.5t, it is necessary to purchase a vignette, either adhesive or electronic.

The vignettes are sold for a period of 10 days (T), 2 months (M) and one year (J). The annual vignette is valid for 14 months, always from the beginning of December to the end of January. Since 2017, it is possible to acquire the vignette digitally.

The maximum permitted speed on Austrian motorways is 130 km/h. It is allowed to drive up to 50 km/h in cities and 100 km/h outside cities.

In case of non-payment, the toll can be paid under certain conditions (for example, insufficient toll credit or deactivated device) or partial payment of the toll (number of axles or incorrectly configured tariff-relevant characteristics).

This must be done at a GO service point within 5h or 100km of the unpaid toll ( you will need to present the device).

Non-payment of a toll entails a penalty of €120, increasing the amount according to the number of infractions.
